As creators, we are driven by a fascination with the nostalgic value of materials, colours and shapes. Drawing on our background in product and fashion design, we seek ways to translate a sense of familiarity into memories. We do this by designing contemporary, wearable textiles.
We enjoy moving between the past and the present, with craftsmanship and material research playing a key role. Our greatest sources of inspiration are old textiles, bobbin lace and embroidery patterns. All these sources evoke a sense of familiarity – a feeling that is different for everyone.
Mattie van Bergen creates mementos using plaster and photography. The plaster is laser-engraved using lace bobbins and embroidery patterns.
Merel Penning is making a name for herself in the world of knitting. She focuses on the digital aspect to blend it with traditional knitting techniques.
For us, it is essential to create work that feels both personal and universal. For example, something from your childhood that subtly evokes memories of home, warmth and security.
Our greatest dream is to create a recognisable world in which people feel at home. Ultimately, we want to explore various forms of expression to bring that nostalgic value to life; this could be through wearable textiles or even art objects for the living room.
A key feature of our designs is our style, which is always instantly recognisable thanks to its quirky colour combinations, its uniqueness and its nod to the past.
Our aim is to give the past a modern twist, without losing its original meaning.
